Upper East Region Tourist Sites

Paga town is located pretty close to Ghana’s border with Burkina Faso to the the north. Paga’s famous crocodile pond is considered sacred because its locals believe that each person in the community has a ‘soul-tie’ with one of the reptiles in that pond. The crocodiles can be lured to come out into open space by waving a live chicken – this is performed only by authorized/assigned persons in the community.

Nalerigu is where a reinforced mud defense wall – akin to the Great Wall in China, was constructed by the locals to protect the community against slave-raiders.
