Madam Charlotte Osei – the Chair of Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC) said sometime back the EC was going to give Ghanaians the “best elections ever”. By and large she and the EC have delivered just that.
She had been vilified, and called names, but she was unperturbed and focused. Did you notice how she did not ‘mind’ Hon. Kennedy Agyapong and his wild allegations? Which allegations he later retracted — much to the fury (I doubt fury is the right word. Maybe utter disdain) of some his own colleagues; like Hon. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful.
I went to my polling station at the Dansoman Datus school at around 3.30 pm to cast my ballot. The place was virtually deserted – to my surprise. Pleasantly surprised; because in 2012, around the same time, there was a long, long queue at the only voting station. This time, there were four different voting stations scattered on the large compound.
Mrs. Osei may be an angel in disguise after all – even though many may have suspected (and there were rumors going around) that she was a pawn of those who appointed her.
Mustapha Hamid, Nana Akufo-Addo’s spokesman said on Joy FM’s Newsfile, December 10th: “Charlotte Osei has proved us wrong… absolutely… no doubt about that…” He was inferring that their (NPP’s) skepticism of the EC chair’s neutrality was misplaced.
